You are now approaching the Peter Snell statue, found on the corner of Tasman and Napier Street. . Peter Snell was a champion runner and in 2007 he unveiled a bronze statue of himself right here in Opunake. In his short career Peter achieved so much and was voted New Zealand’s Sports Champion of the 20th century. The Egmont Soap Factory is found about 50 meters from the statue in the direction of Hawera. They sell environmentally friendly products including vegetable oil soaps and both herbal and natural goodies. Everything is made right here in New Zealand.
