Coming up is the turnoff for Lucy’s Gully in the Egmont National Park and Ahu Ahu Road which leads to a surf break of the same name. Lucy’s Gully is a forest full of red wood trees. It was here that a woman named Lucy Stevens was born next to the Waimoku Stream in 1820. She would spend her time gardening in the area and keep a lookout for any unwelcome visitors in Taranaki. Lucy lived in the gully until she met her husband and they moved to Okorotua Pa where they lived with their children. After her sons and husband died she returned to the gully where she made a grave for them. After that she would return once a year to visit.
