Coming up a winding climb leads to the top of the Strathmore saddle, one of four scenic saddles to be negotiated on this serpentine route. If the day is clear pull over at the summit for an excellent view of Mt Taranaki and the Tasman Sea to the west and Mts Tongariro, Ruapehu and Ngauruhoe to the east.
