You are now approaching Eglinton Valley. This valley is known as “The Avenue of the Disappearing Mountain” and has spectacular views. The Valley is glaciated with steep sides and a flat floor. It’s between 0.5 and 2 kilometers in width and has a shingle riverbed floor, which is constantly changed by the Eglinton River. The Eglinton Valley is long and narrow with clear natural boundaries and a wide variety of flora and fauna. It is an ideal location from which to explore one of the only road-accessible valleys in Fiordland.
