You are now approaching Mount Cook National Park, the home of the highest mountains and the longest glaciers in the country. Mount Cook is also the name of New Zealand’s tallest mountain. It was also the first mountain that the famous mountain climber Sir Edmund Hillary conquered. There are 19 peaks in the park and the reserve is situated next to Lake Pukaki, a well known glacier lake. This is regarded as the best mountain climbing region in New Zealand and there are also a number of scenic walking tracks in the park.
