Coming up is the Okoroire Hot Springs, set amongst ferns on the banks of the Waihou River. These pools have been in existence long before the nearby Okoroire Hot Springs Hotel was built. Its said that in 1808, on the day of his coronation, the famous Maori Chief, Waikato Tairea o Ko Huiarau was anointed by these sacred waters.
