Keep a look out to the right for glimpses of Lake Waikare, the largest of three sizeable lakes in this area. The lake is a traditional eel fishery but is now also home to an invasive fish species, the koi carp. The lake is popular for game bird hunting and yachting, and is extremely shallow with a depth of only 1.5 metres.
