Coming up on the right is the Ruakiri Scenic Reserve and Bushwalk, Aranui Cave and the Waitomo Walkway. Aranui cave is found in the scenic reserve about 5 minutes from the Waitomo glow-worm caves. It has a natural cave entrance and is the smallest of the three main caves. There is a great collection of stalactites, stalagmites, flowstones and creative formations. Aranui is linked to Maori myth and legend and was discovered by a local Maori in 1910. Come and join a tour and see the fascinating cave formations and learn about a rich history. The nearby Waitomo Walkway takes about 4 hours and takes visitors past the limestone formations of the Waitomo River gorge.
