Coming up is the Te Kauri Scenic Reserve. The reserve is what remains of a once large forest that linked the coastal region of Kawhia and the forests of Mount Pirongia. The reserve gets its name from one of the most spectacular trees in New Zealand and there are plenty of them in the park. The walking tracks are some of the best in the Waikato district and cover a diverse range for every fitness level. Whether you want an easy stroll or a walk that’s going to take an entire day to complete you’ll find it in Te Kauri reserve. It’s also known for Maori history. Shell middens and kumara gardens have been discovered close by.
