Coming up is the turn off to Paua World, the home of New Zealand abalone. Here you will see how this colorful shell is used to make jewelry and other gifts. Abalone has been a food source in the Wairapa region for centuries and is still very popular in the Maori Cultural. Paua is the only type of abalone that has a shine to it and it can only be found in New Zealand. Paua World is open on weekdays from 8am till 5pm and on weekends and public holidays from 9 am till 5 pm.
