Coming up is the turn-off for Putangirua Pinnacles. A short drive leads to the carpark and from here it is a 30 minute to hike upstream to see these huge, organ pipe-like columns, formed over the past 120,000 years by heavy rain washing away silt and sand to expose the underlying bedrock.
