Coming up is the turn-off for the Waiohine Gorge, located in the Tararua Forest Park. The Waiohine River flows from the flanks of Arete Peak and Tarn Ridge, and the valleys of its two main tributaries, the Waiohine-iti and Park Rivers, were filled with glacial ice some 20,000 years ago. For those brave enough to cross the swing bridge high above the river, there are a number of good hikes here, just minutes from the car park.
