You are approaching Waimarie Wanganui Riverboat Center and Museum. In the late 1800’s Whanganui was a tourist Mecca and a 12-strong fleet of riverboats would run up and down the river from the coast to Taumarunui. Today, the restored riverboat, Waimarie, runs regular cruises 13 kilometers up the Whanganui River to Upokongaro. The museum at the river contains a full photographic record of the Waimarie and displays of river-related artifacts.
