You are now approaching the National War Memorial and Carillion. The memorial is over 50 meters high and its art deco architecture is spectacular. Its home to the Hall of Memories, The Tomb of the Unknown Warrior and the Carillion - a large bell like instrument. The Hall of Memories consists of six small chapels each of which represent a branch of New Zealand’s armed forces. The Carillion is the third largest of its kind in the world and the only Carillion in New Zealand. Finally The Tomb of the Unknown Warrior is the resting place for the remains of an unnamed soldier but represents all the soldiers who died in the First World War. This is an eye catching monument and one of the most visited sites in Wellington.
