Coming up is Kaitoke Regional Park. This is a spectacular area that covers 2860 hectares of the Tararua Ranges where you’ll find the Hutt River and beautiful beach forests. There are tranquil river pools to swim in and bushy scenic walking tracks to explore. From The Ridge Track you’ll be able to view the entire Upper Hut Valley or visit one of the spots where the Lord of the Rings movies were filmed. This hanging valley was the sight for Rivendell - the land of the elves - in the award winning films. The Hutt River can also be found in the park and this is where Wellington - New Zealand’s capital city - draws most of its water from.
