Coming up on your left/ right is Tunnel Gully, a part of the Pakurathahi Forest. The Gulley is a popular spot for walking, mountain biking and picnicking. This area is named because of its link between the famous Rimutaka Railway line. Visitors should also visit the historic Mangaroa Tunnel nearby. Take the Tanes track through podocarp, tawa and untouched beach forest and you’ll find the tunnel in no time. You could also cycle or walk up the backdrop to Upper Hut Valley and enjoy the breathtaking views from the top.
