You are now approaching Hari Hari Village. This small dairy farming settlement is approximately half way between the Glaciers and Hokitika. In 1931 a young aviator from Sydney made the first solo flight across the Tasman Sea and landed upside down in a swamp very near the town. The event put Hari Hari on the map and it slowly grew into a milling town. There is a good range of accommodation available in Hari Hari as well as a hotel with a restaurant. Besides fishing, visitors can take part in activities such as hunting, ’hot rock’ rafting and rainforest walks.
