You are now approaching Inangahua Hall at the Inangahua Junction, coming up on the left/right. Inangahua Junction is a small town whose main industries are coal, farming, forestry and sawmilling. The name of the town comes from the Maori word for whitebait. Inangahua suffered a huge earthquake in 1968 which resulted in many landslides and aftershocks. The whole population had to be evacuated and the experiences of the local people can be better understood at the Inangahua Hall. The hall displays historical items that date back to the fateful year. The town is also the host of the New Years Eve PHAT music festivals.
