You are now approaching the Jade Factory. The first Jade Factory was started in 1990 in Rotorua and has since established retails outlets in Auckland, Christchurch, Queenstown and here in Hokitika. The Jade Factory specializes in Nephrite Jade products. The common names for Nephrite are “greenstone†and “pounamu†in Maori. The products range from unique, hand-carved pendants to jade set in gold or sterling silver. Jade is said to embody a special meaning of hope, strength, growth and family bonds.
