You are now approaching the Westport Coaltown Museum coming up on the left/right hand side. Coaltown is a wealth of information about the past and features many different exhibits. There are aviation and transport displays, equipment from old sawmills and the early brewery and film viewing areas. The films cover information about coal, gold and other minerals. The photography displays are the best way to understand the West Coast earthquakes and the discovery of uranium in the Buller region. Coaltown Museum’s mineral display is one of the best in New Zealand and is a chance to get up close to some of the treasures that have been discovered.
