You are now approaching the Buller District. The scenic district covers the area from the northern tip of South Island’s west coast, heads down the coast to Punakaiki and then over to the Lewis Pass region. The combination of coastline, snow covered alpine passes, mountains and forest will make your holiday feel like a great escape. The locals are friendly and each town has a unique character. Westport is the largest and is both a port and coal mining town. Other sights to see are Cape Foulwind’s seal colony, the pancake rocks at Punakaiki and the colonial past of Reefton.
