Coming up is Lake Mahinapua. Set in a reserve that was established in the early 1900’s, the lake is surrounded by lush vegetation and dense forests. Lake Mahinapua was once a coastal lagoon, but evolved into a lake after the coastal dune systems built up around the lagoon. The lake is home to black swans, grey and mallard ducks and the shy fern bird can often only be heard in the surrounding trees. Lake Mahinapua is a great spot for picnics as well as kayaking.
