You’ve now reached the car park of Lake Matheson, famed for being a perfect picture opportunity because the dark waters reflect New Zealand’s highest peak. The walk to the lake is approximately 40 minutes and is an easy tramp through the forest. For an extended walk, follow the trail that winds around the lake and takes about ninety minutes to complete.
